This is what you see when you pull into the parking lot from Drew Road.

I don’t get the rule about NO LONG PANTS. (I will edit this later so that the whole image shows. Not sure what happened here.)

This path runs alongside the lake for a ways. I don’t know how old it is; I don’t remember it being here when I brought my sons here 20 years ago.

This is what you see from Ross. And yes, it’s as quiet and peaceful as it looks.

Preece Road is blocked off now.

Volner Distributing building on Commercial Avenue

I went out after work today intending to photograph the old railway station between Main and Broadway in the 300 block, but found that I’d been oblivious to its removal. (At least, I think it’s gone. There’s a dirt lot there now, and I’m pretty sure a building with a platform was there, but now I’m not so sure because I only vaguely remember it, and since it’s not there now, I don’t know that it ever was. I never walked on its boards, or saw a train stop there, yet I feel bereft.

I scouted around for something interesting to capture, and found this abandoned building on Commercial Avenue. The sign says Volner Distributing 355 Commercial Avenue, and the phone number is after the days of the EL prefix.

The windows are very interesting–the screens curve out so that the pane can be opened to let fresh air in while keeping bugs out.

Except for the gaping rips, that is.

Lunch at Exotic Thai on 4th Street, El Centro, CA 92243

I went to lunch at Exotic Thai on 4th St for the first time last week on the recommendation of my good friend, Lupe. The service was outstanding, and the food was very good, for the most part. I’m not sure why there’s Chinese food on the menu–this confused me, a newbie to Thai. (I forgot to write down what this was–beef with serrano peppers, and orange chicken.) The orange chicken was o.k., but the beef was positively yummy, as was the wonton. I can’t remember the eggroll, so I guess I’d better go back very soon.

For those of you wanting to try it out: it’s easy to blow right past it on 4thSt. It doesn’t look like a restaurant–more like a doctor’s office–and it’s on the front corner of what looks like a business strip mall. If you’re going north on 4th and get to Ross Ave (where Salvation Army is,) you’ve gone too far. I’ll get a picture of it next time I go and plug it in here so you can find it more easily.
